The Idea

Storytelling is a timeless African tradition. To promote the KFC Family Bucket, we combined this heritage with packaging design that linked to built-in mobile technology.

Bespoke bucket sleeves directed customers to a mobile app, where they could unlock original suppertime stories. When placed face-down on the table, the phone’s proximity sensor automated the selected audio story, bringing the bucket to life with sound, light and vibration by utilising the phone’s speaker, flashlight and vibration functions. As audio played, the stories were animated by light projections that filtered through the illustrated and laser cut sleeves. Creating an interactive storytelling experience people could enjoy, while sharing a meal.

The How

The mobile app and packaging design worked seamlessly together to create an integrated brand experience.

We wrote and recorded 3 original audio stories, creating 3 illustrated and laser cut bucket sleeves to complement each story.
Laser cutting and illustration was carefully considered to achieve the best illumination and projected light effect.
As the audio stories played, the emotion and drama of the story was animated by light and vibration design.
