The music business is still more about business than it is about music.
It’s easy to record and publish, but the record labels and radio stations still control the one vital ingredient to becoming a working artist: Distribution. Without it, talent just isn’t enough. What if we took luck, record labels and traditional distribution out of the equation.



The Idea

Introducing KFC SoundBite. A new, fully integrated and digitally driven music chart. Anyone can upload their track. Anyone can listen. All of South Africa pushing talented artists up the chart by listening and sharing the music they love. But how did we get the fans to listen to the music? We used our media to push the artists, in real time. Every single piece of SoundBite media live-streamed their music. From on-air coverage to WeTransfer ads, banners, TV show integration, Sponsorships, Social media and YouTube Pre-Rolls. All of it, every possible media buy. Even our KFC stores pushed the music. Using the power of our 850 stores across the country, we linked the purchase of our chicken to unlock full tracks. Every transaction influences the chart and gives money back to the artist.

In our first month, we’ve already taken our local unsigned artists audience from 0 to over 14.75 million fans.
We created a one-of-a-kind chart, gave our media to up coming artists and gave fans a new place to discover fresh local music.
Oh, and customers have bought over 2,5million SoundBite meals within the first 2 weeks of launch. Now that’s what we call music distribution.
